D & K Jackson Contacts
Hello All,
As some of you know our family, enjoyed our first summer as members before Katrina. Our home in Gulfport is in great shape and if anyone needs a couch (or cold beverage) while they are dealing with insurance/FEMA/logistics please stop in.
I also have plenty of tools.
We should look forward to a sunny afternoon on the deck of the new clubhouse, in the orange of late afternoon, when this mess seems like a bad dream from another life.

Biloxi needs a full rig. Randy & I will tow Red and #8 for us and Biloxi. New Orleans may need some minor rigging. I'm in touch with Tom Baker and will grab what he needs off of one of the other boats hopefully this afternoon and tonight. Not sure whether we're coming over Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Cindy & Matt are supposed to drive to Houston today. Matt will drive my truck back here and if he arrives early enough, I would prefer to drive to Fairhope tommorrow afternoon.
I haven't seen word yet on a board or executive meeting. If there has been one or the other, could one of the flag officers give us a quick run through on what's going on?
See you Fairhope Bayrats this weekend,

The Spirit of The Gulf Coast
Hello all:
I hope everybody is surviving and getting your lives back on track. I know that for some of you this will take longer, but there is hope. I was on the GYA website a few minutes ago and hit most of the GYA clubs' websites. As you know most were either destroyed or severely damaged just like BWYC. It really is sad to see such a blow to the facilities of the clubs across the Gulf. But one thing I have noticed that is clear and gives one hope. Yacht Clubs aren't buildings, places or even boats, it is the people that have that common interest in a way of life. Yacht clubs truly are a family and in times like these that really shines clear. I see that clearly in the posts here on this blog. I read it every day and it gives me hope. My wife, daughter and I are from Mobile and now live near Jackson, MS and "grew up" on the coast in the yacht clubs, mostly on Mobile Bay. We have been working with the Red Cross doing disaster relief all along the Gulf Coast and have seen a lot of people hurting and needing help to get their feet back on the ground.
I see the Yacht club families coming back together and getting things back together, some faster than others, but I am encouraged to see that spirit still strong and surviving well. For those of you that have lost your homes and even loved ones, I continue to pray that you will find comfort and hope.
Keep you chins up and don't loose hope. It will get a little better every day. You WILL get your lives back and one day this will just be a distant experience.
Sincerely,
Greg King

Hi Kathryn,
So glad you are safe! Saw your messages on this blog. Can you provide a phone number or email address? Wanting to reach all OLA Class of '81 friends to stay in touch and offer any support we can. Do you know how any of our other classmates made out from the Bay/Waveland? I have been in touch with Kathy M. and the Pass gang.

Flag Mast
Re Hank & Joan's posting - Hank, please call the thing you built in 1987 a "FLAG MAST" rather than a "flag pole" - the former is much more dignified. To the members, Hank Renken built that flag mast in 1987, the year I was Commodore of the extraordinary BWYC. Hank made the statement that the mast would still be standing even if everything else was destroyed in a storm, and eighteen years later he has been proven to be correct. He also said the mast would be standing long after he is no longer with us - hope we don't have to score that one for a long time. The flag that is flying on the mast at the moment was raised by Gilly I believe on Tuesday after Katrina - Malin, Gilly, and yours truly went down to the club grounds - Gilly found the flag lying somewhere down there and raised it on the starboard yard of "Hank's Mast", using one of the few haylards left. I watched him raise the flag - I don't know what he was thinking, but I considered it an act of respect, defiance and optimism.
After this devastating tragedy, a BWYC team won the United States Men's Sailing Championship, with the BWYC gone, and with whatever personal losses the members of the team had suffered. This was a magnificent effort, and an important statement on many levels.
We are all dealing with many things, economics and family being big ones - but let's not forget how important the BWYC is to us and the community, and how the BWYC can, and indeed will, serve as a magnate and rallying point. This itsy-bitsy club in south Mississippi that has accomplished so much and is nationally recognized cannot be allowed to succumb to this.
I know that the Flag Officers & Board are committed to keeping the BWYC going, and all members will need to make an effort to keep the special spirit of this organization alive and well.

At least the Flag Mast is still standing!
However, and unfortunately, I think that's the only thing still standing on all of N. Beach Blvd! If anyone is wondering what the flag mast gaff is doing on the ground, its because it needed to come down. The wind bent the gaff connection on the mast thereby fracturing the metal at its mount. I was concerned that someone would try to bend the gaff back to its original position which is quite easy to do however at the same time the metal fracture would shear and down comes 150 lbs. of steel pole (the gaff) which is exactly what happened (as planned) when I did so. The flag mast itself is in fine shape and it did what it was designed to do and that was to essentially survive! The gaff (and Burgee mast) can easily be repaired, however the flag is looking rather ratty, if anyone has a flag that they can spare, feel free to install it on the available halyard. Joan, Chad and I (Scott is in Los Angeles and returns here on 10/10/05) rode out the storm in our "hurricane hole of a home" in Diamondhead on the 14th fairway of the Pine course (at 50' altitude) and sustained very minimal damage to both residence and our manufacturing plant in Picayune. Both of which received power just one week after Hurricane Katrina arrived. We (and all our employees) were back in operation shortly thereafter. Joan and I wish all of you a speedy recovery and we look forward to the upcoming "housewarming" party in our new yacht club! Fred and I were able to get to #8 and #9 during Rita. We moved them up to beach road in front of the Merrigans. I couldn't believe that Rita brought the water up to the end of the driveway just like Lilly and the other one that came back to back last year.
Randy, Gilly or myself will tow the red boat to Wadewitz. Harry, Randy, Katherine, Gilly, Riess, Fred and I have all expressed interest in sailing this weekend. If no other clubs need a boat to borrow, Clinton can tow the red boat over Wednesday.
Rick and a small army left for Wisconsin Saturday to pick up seven trailers to tow back here. We are still camping at the Stennis Airport off of hwy 603. I am currently trying to find a more permanent location that will also allow me to continue working at my regular job.

GYA TROPHIES
Two of the GYA trophies are here in Fairhope with me; the Capdevielle trophy, and the Commodore Mike Johnson trophy. Where should I take them? Have the other trophies been retrieved from Kay Wolfe's house?
I'll be in the Bay tomorrow, Sunday, Sept 25, to meet with the FEMA disaster representative at 12 noon.
I'm not sure I like this blog thing, no spell-check.

Commodores Report
Dear Members, 1st thank you to the parties responsible for setting up this BLOG whatever the heck that is! The BWYC is still in operation and the manager and I are in contact almost daily. Of course, we all know the status of the club. I have been contacted by our insurance company and our agent and they are on the case. However, with the devastation created by Katrina, we can expect a long rebuilding time frame. Personally, myself and my family are fine, 3 family members lost their houses or were totalled by the insurance company. Barbie and I are in Fairhope AL and our kids are in school here only temporarily. Our house suffered 3 feet of flooding and other damages but is "fixable" my office is pretty much a total loss but I intend to restore rather than tear down since it is an "old" Bay St Louis building and has some character. If you need me, call my office at 228-467-6574 or e-mail me at mdhaasjr@earthlink.net Due to the circumstances, the annual meeting will be delayed probably until next Jan or Feb, hopefully. As soon as I have something to report on, we will have a Board meeting and followup to the membership.
I have some great photos of the final party at the club and will try to get these to Bishop to post on the web site.
This will have to suffice for my comments this month, I can't feature a business of the month since they are all gone!
I will see you at the club!
Mike Haas, Jr.

BWYC Family and Friends
Mauro Reporting in.
I'm happy to hear that y'all are doing fine, given the circumstances!
I went to BSL last 17 to try to find my ketch "Christopher Robin" (it was on hard at the JR Marina for repairs). She was tied to the piers by two 5/8" ropes and I let out 2 anchors w/30 feet of chain. I saw the 2 ropes, broken. each w/a breaking point of 12,000 pounds. Went all over BSL trying to find her, but nothing. What I saw cannot be transmitted by pics or words, one has to be there to feel the destruction.
Went to BWYC. It was a sad view but the flag flying high was a consolation. I saw some work being done, don't know what.
Went to Diamond head marina, or tried to. Closed to all non-residents. I was told that the woods are FULL of boats, but only residents are allowed in.
The woods in BSL are also full of boats.
OK y'all let me know if I can help in some way.
Mauro.

Finally contacted Greg Fisher, North Sails. He will sell to us at "the lowest price possible" one of his personal sets of sails, or a new set. He said the price of the new set would be close to the price of the used set. He is to get back with me about the pricing.
He said he could ship either set to me in time for the Wadewitz Regatta.
I've discussed this with Mike Haas and he is agreeable to the purchase. I'm sending Ted an e-mail about this.
Judy and I plan to go to Jackson this Mon. This will be our long- term temporary residence until I can get something done with our house in the Bay. If anyone hears about housing closer to the Bay please let me know. Judy's oncologist told her to stay away from the Bay due to her supressed immune system caused by the chemo therepy.

Could be more bad news
After having saved all of the Flying Scots, Rita is pushing a lot of water into the Bay. Rick just called and said it was already too late to get into the club to save the saved Scots.
#9, #8 and #1 are on thier trailers in front of the slings, but the water is already lapping the bottoms. I fear that they may take a beating after having survived Katrina. I will be heading down there after work (around 1:00) to see what's happening and if there's anything I can do. I have a bunch of line that I might be able to use to tie them away from the slings... except that there's nothing to tie them to!
Clinton, #4 may turn out to be the only boat we can lend.
Keep your fingers crossed,
Bish

Burgee Safe...not quite sound
Last week a guy was camping out for a couple of days at the Club...some of you may have seen him. He had a trailer with a small boat. Before he left he gave me the Large Burgee and Commadore's pennant. Susan and I will have the Burgee framed (it's very blown out) and return it once the club has somewhere to hang it. I'll try to mail the Commadore's pennant to Mike next week.
Our BSL house had 8 feet of water, 1 foot of mud, and major roof damage. The Jourdan River Shores house had 7 feet of water, lots of fish and mud. The floor and walls are, hopefully, being removed now.
We are fortunate that both are fixable. We are more fortunate that the BWYC family is safe.
I'm back in Italy, but Susan and I will be returning often to try to get work done. Chris skipped a little Ole Miss Law School to help me clean up (rip walls out of) the BSL house. He lives on "The Links" golf course so if you are in Oxford give him a call.

The Wolfe's are in Fairhope w/BigDog
It is a great joy to hear from everyone, our friends, and to read your upbeat thoughts. Thank God you are safe.
We are in Fairhope staying with my niece, Nancye Wolfe Renihan and her husband, Tom. We've rented a house in Jackson and will stay there for several months while I see about getting our house rebuilt. I'll commute to the Bay to take care of that and do club business. Big dog, Halley, is with us.
Bish, I might need a spot on the club grounds.
Frania and Joe have been staying at their house on Melody Lane. Ted and Margene have been in Houston. They will be staying in Diamondhead, in the Hightower condos, and plan to return to the coast this weekend.
God bless all of you, and God speed with your recovery efforts.
Happy sailing,
Judy and Bernie

Finally ran for it
Hi Folks, After coming and going for three weeks, I finally ran for it. My lot is fairly clean anyway. I took the beasts to N Carolina to a nice house on a lake - one long drive but worth it. We'll be back after the temperature drops in BSL and we can find a place to live. My temporary address is 123 Tidewater Point (no tide up here) Henrico, NC 27842 and phone 252 533 0378. Let me know if you have a lead on a place that allows a dog and a cat. Cocoa has joined a family in Natchez, and Colleen is delighted. The new "Chamberlain" kitten "BC" enjoys everything. Glad to hear the scots are okay. I will be back to help do repairs as needed. When and where will the annual meeting be ?

Capdevielle in Fairhope
Fairhope YC is hosting the Wadewitz Regatta in two weeks (October 1-2). Bernie has secured a new set of sails from Flying Scot, Inc. Gilly, Walter, Malin and I recovered all of the Flying Scots and returned them to the club. The Red Scot appears to be in fine shape. Randy and I plan to clean it up tonight over a couple of brewskis & cigars. If you're around, stop by. We'll be at the apartment complex at the corner of Dunbar and hwy 90 west of the Winn Dixie Shopping Center.
Randy, Gilly and I have already expressed interest in attending. If you can make it to Fairhope, please do. #9 and #8 appear to have made it through as well and we may be towing them to FYC to loan to other clubs that weren't as fortunate as we were in the Flying Scot recovery. It sure would be nice to see more faces that we haven't seen since the storm and this regatta may be perfect timing for a break.

Hi all,
So happy to hear about my bwyc freinds. I am at my sisters in Jackson. Tim and Jon rode out the storm and had minor damage to the house. I come to Waveland every week-end to bring them supplies. They are staying there. If I can bring anyone anything, let me know.

Fairhope has taken in a lot of BWYC people. There generosity has been AMAZING.
The BWYC/Fairhope crew would like to get one or two FS over here. How many Scots survived?
Also...I'm looking for Mike Haas. I know he is in Fairhope, but that is it. Anyone have a contact number.

Tom & Jeanne Shepard
It's been great to see all the info on the yacht club family, tho we are once removed from all the action. Mom & Dad are bouncing between Dallas & Houston and would love to hear from anyone. cadburyc@earthlink.net
Their house withstood the storm (good news) but they lost everything inside to the water. They are keeping a positive outlook: they don't have any yard work or dusting to do! We are so sad to see pictures, but are praying for those that are summoning the courage to rebuild. The Spirit of the Bay is bigger than the storm.
God bless y'all,

Their house withstood the storm (good news) but they lost everything inside to the water. They are keeping a positive outlook: they don't have any yard work or dusting to do! We are so sad to see pictures, but are praying for those that are summoning the courage to rebuild. The Spirit of the Bay is bigger than the storm.
God bless y'all,

Mallory Cup Victory!!!!!!!!!
U.S. Men's Sailing Championship 2005Friday, September 16
Conditions: 10 - 12 knots, rain, chop and heavy seas
After three days of no wind and either hot sun or rain, the wind finally began to blow as the effects of Tropical Storm Ophelia began to affect Long Island Sound. The conditions allowed the race committee to sail longer courses and the sailors raced in the final three races in rolling seas.
Zak Fanberg (New Orleans, LA), Sara Fanberg (New Orleans, LA) and Marcus Eagan (Metairie LA), representing Bay Waveland Yacht Club won the 2005 U.S. Men's Sailing Championship after a very tight final race against Rush Creek Yacht Club's team of Kenneth Wolfe (Dallas, TX), Jake Scott (La Porte, TX) and Jameson Rabbitt (Irving TX). The two teams had swapped leads during the regatta and the racing between them was always very close with only one point separating them at the very end. Sailing for Cedar Point Yacht Club, Josh Goldman (Westport, CT), Marc Jacobi (Bridgeport, CT) and Jay Lurie (New Canaan, CT) captured third place.
This is Fanberg's third win in a row, a feat only equaled by Harry C (Buddy) Melges Jr. in the 1960's. What is bittersweet about his victory is that the team's home yacht club, Bay Waveland was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.

Bay update from Corky Hadden
Hi everyone. I was in BSL yesterday and thought that those of you who have not been there recently would like an update. All the roads that I saw are clear. The Shell and Chevron stations at Main St. & HWY 90 are both open. Hancock Bank on Highway 90 is partially functional. Peoples Bank & many other businesses in Diamondhead are up and running. Many houses that were not destroyed now have power and water (not potable yet). Insurance adjusters are everywhere. New cars with no tags can be seen moving about the streets. Many homes and offices that were flooded have been gutted and are waiting for contractors who are working feverishly to bring buildings back to normal. As you can tell, the rebuilding process is fully in gear. I spoke with Ricky Eagan who is trying to get a working power pole @ BWYC to power what will soon be a BWYC trailer park & hopefully the artesian well. I understand that more boats will be returning to the harbor shortly.
We have temporarily moved to Sea Grove, FL as we try to figure out how to get back to BSL. All of our kids are in school down here for the time being. Our best guess is that Margaret will return to OLA as soon as the school reopens (Nov. 1 is the target date). The boys will probably finish the first semester down here, and then go back to SSC for the second semester. I have set up an office in our house and will soon have a small office in BSL. Our plan is to be living & working full time back in BSL by the end of the year.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones in the storm. All of the material things can and will be replaced, and probably be better than before. It is the people that made our community so great, and I hope that many of those same people will be the ones who will bring it back from this disaster.

P.S. Take a look at the article re: Bay St. Louis & Waveland merging at www.sunherald.com. If this happens, will we have to change the name of our yacht club?

Praying for yall... I was in BSL and Waveland 09/10 Update
Hello all:
Name here is Greg King and I was in BSL and Waveland last weekend (09/10) and saw the damage. It is heartbreaking. Lot's of good memories of Bay Waveland Yacht Club and the Waveland Resort Inn. My wife (Kathryn Anderson) and I are with the Red Cross and were doing disaster relief there going door to door. Checked in on the Chapman's house and had just missed them. Their old house essentially gone and the new one, although standing, looks destroyed. Talked to some neighbors and they said the Mr. & Mrs. Chapman had just left and were ok. We used to hail from Buccaneer in Mobile and now live in Ridgeland, MS just north of Jackson, MS. We have known Kenny and Amy (Chapman) Kleinschrodt for a long time and wanted to check up on Amy's mom and dad. We will be back in BSL and Waveland soon trying to help the great spirited people there get back on their feet.
Fairhope Yacht Club, Mobile Yacht Club and Buccaneer all sustained substantial damage but still stand and are salvageable. Look like they faired better than the others along the coast for sure.
Well we are praying for all of yall, and I know that the spirit of the people there will bounce back soon...
Keep hope !

They started school today, and everyone up here has been fantastic. Sure do miss the Bay- but we'll be back one day. Will be coming down to take care of some stuff week of Oct. 8th. Maybe I'll see you guys. Anyone hear from the Weatherlys, Gagnets, or Marlowes? Take Care- Kathryn Boh
Silver Lining
After the past 2 weeks, I'm emotionally and physically drained after riding out and picking up after the storm. Thinking about all that we lost in a house that's been in our family for generations wears on you so I've decided to focus on positive outcomes to avoid further sorrow (or blisters). So here's a few things I've come with:
* after 59 years Walter finally gets a house with A/C.
* The bay has a plethora of new fishing reefs
* Mallini's is accessable by Sunfish (once rebuilt).
* Can't loose the Lipton if we don't sail it.
* BWYC probably didn't run my card from the Festoon Bay party the night before the storm
* New Orleans finally found a way to fill the Superdome on a Sunday.
* Hancock County doesn't have to pump beach in for the next 50 years
* We can tell those old fowgees who "survived Camille" to shove it.
* Fullfill my dream of "Living in a trailer, down by the river.."
* Ricky Eagan finally got to use all his gadgets, gizmos, doohickies, and thingamajigs.
* My crazy idea of a ferry system to link Pass and Bay may come true.
What would you have grabbed out of your house if you knew it was going to be this bad?

Pass Christian Situation
Vicki Mcdonald and I finally got into the Pass yesterday. Most of the houses and buildings west of what use to be Pass Christian Yacht Club is unrecognizable. The building where shrimpers got ice was about 40feet high and shows the level of the surge which I eyeballed to be about 30-35 ft. I haven't been down to Waveland, but I imagine it looks similar. It is almost as though the waves/surge went over Henderson Point and into the Bay. It took several days for Pass officals to get their act together and finally settled on letting those with id in for only five days. The story is the same as most where we found little things that you wouldn't thing would survive but there is no sign of the 300lb dresser that was your great grandmothers. We're back in Destin now trying to brainstorm the next move. Hope ya'll are doing well.

The Worrel's
John and Virginia Worrel rode out the hurricane at a Diamondhead Condo with Jack and Joan Breeden. They lost the roof on the condo during the storm, but did OK. When the Breeden's and the Worrel's returned on Tuesday to the Bay, they found devastation, needless to say. The Worrel's are currently staying with John and LeeLee Bell (daughter) in Maitland, FL., but will temporarily reside with Susan (daughter)and Cullen Meyers in Covington, LA (home# 985-893-0228). John's e-mail address is jworrelsr@netzero.com and their cell # is (228-216-0080). John and Virginia wish love to all in the Bay and hope to see everyone soon.

Houston Update
Message from Cindy:
"It's Thursday 9:30 AM at the Houston Camp in Mississippi. You guys are probably wondering what its like here. This morning 2 tote tanks (about 300 gal each) were loaned to our Houston base camp by Sun Coast Resources. A truck was sent to fill them with gasoline. The tanks were originally meant for diesel but we needed them for gasoline. So the first Stennis airport employee who pulled up today, filled his diesel tank with gasoline. Lots of phone calls, lots of favors, Problem was solved.
I drove to the Bay hospital, which consists of tents in the parking lot, to pick up colostomy bags badly needed in Pearlington, MS, that were FedEx'd from Houston. Thanks so much. I drove them to the shelter in Pearlington and had them delivered to the patients.
When I arrived in Pearlington, I met a PA (Physicians Asst.) who had just driven in from West Virginia. He came with one doctor and two nurses who had tried for 10 days to get the official clearance from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to come help and decided to CROSS THE LINE. They said to hell with the red tape and drove over. We have now delivered all the privately donated medical supplies and pharmaceuticals and set up a hospital today. In order to set up the hospital, we had to find a location, a fire truck, some marines to help hose the mud of the floor, and move in the doctors and medical supplies.
Today was the first day I saw the Red Cross or FEMA or any doctors for that matter in the Pearlington area. The Red Cross rep came to me and asked what they could to help us. They said they would have come earlier but didn't know the roads were open. Six days ago, we did not know they were open, either. We hitched a ride on a helicopter and have been driving there since.
My brother Bishop and I delivered the last of the clothing and supplies you donated to my brother, Woody's, church. He is sheltering about 100 families at his church. We have already, amongst my friends, found a home for one of the families in Woody's church for a mother and three children.
I am back at base camp and we have our medical crew from West Virginia, Chicago and Clearlake. We also have several groups of family and friends and friends from the Yacht Club who will stay with us. There are thousands of troops here at the Stennis Airport, where our base camp is located, probably because the EOC has made this location their command central.
As of closing this update, another renegade doctor has just arrived and it is 10:10PM. We have just heard that a brand new washing machine has been delivered to our home in Houston to be brought down to the base camp.
That's all for now.
~Cindy

Power back in BSL
From Kippy's cousin Alex who works for the Energy Dept. in DC
It's been reported to me this afternoon that Mississippi Power is shooting for having power to Bay St. Louis by the end of the day today. Clearly there may be issues and the entire area may be slow to come up, but that is good news that they have been able to work enough infrastructure back into the area. Small victories but victories all the same.
Best to everyone.
Bay Saint Louis - Houston update
Message from Cindy Cady via Bay St. Louis:
"Thank you all for your continued support. The Houston rescue team is becoming well known in the disaster area. We are still at the Stennis airport and are now surrounded by 7-10,000 troops. Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has set up its headquarters here.
We are now, with the help of our friends, able to fuel autos for the Stennis airport employees as well as friends and relatives who cannot get gas and need to leave, not to mention our own rescue vehicles.
We have received about 150-200 boxes of medical supplies (tetanus, insulin, antibiotics, and lots of first aid material) that are being flown in by private aircraft. We continue to receive these daily into Stennis.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
We have many doctors and nurses through our friends in many states who have volunteered to come here for a few days at a time but cannot get clearance from EOC. Some have been told by EOC that it is because they have no available housing. We can house approximately 20 at a time at our base camp. If you are willing or know someone who is willing to come, contact me thru my home phone, 713-877-1462, where I will be checking in for messages and speaking with my family there who are manning communications.
We also have a need for a pharmacist, who can help categorize, label and organize the medications we are receiving from Huntsville. If anyone is interested, please contact us at 713-877-1462 and get us your contact information.
We have cots, bedding, toilets, showers, food, water and transportation at our base camp, which is set up in an open warehouse/private hangar on the airport property in the middle of all the troops.
If anyone would still like to make a donation, additional cots would be appreciated. If anyone has a washing machine, that would also be greatly appreciated. Those are the two most important things needed for the Houston camp at Stennis Airport. We have trucks going from Houston to the base camp almost daily, so delivery should not be a problem.
Anyone who is traveling from the east to the coast should know that the I-10 Bridge over the Pascagoula River is one lane and moving very slow.
Bay St. Louis and the Mississippi Coast area not experiencing the same problems as you are seeing with the media. The media here are very helpful and friendly and doing anything they can to help others."

B. Baltar
Hello everyone! I am back on the coast (without my trip to Hawaii):(
Not sure what what I am doing.... besides picking thur that is left at the Eagans and Kennedy's.
I did find many itmes entacked yesterday. I also found a vase that maybe Sarah's or Bonnie's.
Although I have complained about my triplex being located in Gulfport, it is standing. Downstairs needs new carpeting but other wise no damage. (And I do have an opening if anyone is looking for a place)
If anyone would like a copy of my resume, I am looking for a new position.
Love to All! Barbara

Well I'm here in Auburn again feeling helpless as I'm sure lots of you are, but I just wanted everyone to know that even up here all people can talk about is the hurricane. Band parties charged $2 to get in to go to the coast, there are tables set up everywhere around campus collecting money, my chapter is letting people come to chapter in any kind of clothes if they bring $4 for the hurricane stuff, there are car washes, restaurants are donating money, and much much more. I have had people bring me boxes of clothes to get down there too. If anyone wants to come up for a game or a weekend or whatever we have a pull out couch and other people have extra rooms. Just a weekend to get away from all the crazyness--i know NO ONE is an Auburn fan, but I thought I'd just throw that out there. It's funny-well not funny, whatever I don't know but as we were going to the store room by what used to be Armand's one of the units was open and I saw a little book that said "Hurricane Camille-the most devistating storm to hit the Gulf Coast" I laughed and thought riiigghhhhttt. Anyway, Chapoton's are all ok. John still hasn't seen BSL yet.

We are looking into, and identifying, specific needs and methods of providing help for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, particularly in the Bay St. Louis, MS area - an area that we know well and where two of my family's houses were destroyed.
Items intially will likley include sending tarps and other construction materials via UPS to my brother, Boo, who is nearby in Abbeyville, LA.; and funding a truck of supplies from Ohio which is is being organized by the in-laws of US Congressman Gene Taylor (D-Mississippi) Janet and Carroll Gordon. Congressman Taylor's house was also destroyed.
We have offered money for these items and will be offering more money for specifc identified needs as they arise, both small and large.
We have opened a bank account at Premier Bank, Kansas and are collecting money for this aid to the Gulf Coast. If you wish to contribute, you may make checks payable to Katrina Relief Leawood/BSL and forward them to us. Donations will be tax deductable. We will acknowledge receipt and eventually reply to you with an accounting of how the money was spent, and a desription of how your money helped. Please provide your email address on your check if possible. We are also setting up a direct deposit or wire transfer for convenience. We will provide more information on that soon.
We truly appreciate your genorosity and willingness to help those whom we know. The outpouring of concern and support has been overwhelming. Thank you.

Bay St.Louis in Good Hands---Gilly
I left BSL today to decompress for a few days. Stennis airfield looks like an army base. Huge planes full of support are in and out of that place and the atmosphere in BSL is positive. All the troops I talked to are very helpful and the police officers from all over the country could not be more helpful. The Texas connection I'm positive saved 100s of lives. They worked their way into Perlington and Ainsley where there was no support (and let their battery die). They rode in Helicopters and didn't take crap from anyone. Rumor on the street is the Festoon Bay Distribution center will move to the BWYC.
A lot has happened in the last week and if you would have told me 10 days ago that I would be in destin taking a shower and shaving because I have lost everything in a hurricane I would not have believed you (or I would have grabbed the Driscoll painting upstairs and a couple extra pairs of boxers before leaving). The most important fact is that by the grace of God the Steiffel's are fine. We all like to give bish his share of crap, but he is literally a life saver. We'll all see each other again eventually and I like Judy's idea of a party at BWYC where we all throw our house keys in the bay..
more to come

One week after buying Chris' family property at 818 N. Beach, it was gone. What timing! However, we are fine, although my parents who were at Dunbar Village were with us in BSL during the storm and need your prayers as we had to move them to a nursing home in Meridian- not a great place, but very few options right now. During the hurricane evacuation, 10 of Dunbar's residents died--very sad! Ashley and I are in Monroe, but will be coming back to the Bay soon. Chris is working for Hancock in B. R. Our son, Chip was locked into Ocshner as part of his resident rotation- we were so worried about him, but he was fine We need to plan a reunion on the Club pier to hug, thank God for our safety, and reconnect.

We (Bonnie and Van) left at the very last minute - Sunday at Noon - driving all night to Winter Park, FL. We took Hwy 90 and I found out that there are 2 tunnels in Mobile, finally arriving at 3am. Laure, Phil and Chuck are putting us up until we can start to make decisions about the future. We are thankful to be alive and to hear from all of our dear friends that everyone is now safe. Like everyone else, the house and all of its contents are all gone, but we keep telling ourselves that they are all just things and we have our memories and friends. Right now we are thinking of relocating to Central Florida to be near the kids and grandchildren (Philip, Erik, Peyton and Austin), but the Bay will always be a part of all of our lives.
We would like to hear from any and all. This seems like a terrible dream and we will all wake up and find that our wonderful town is still there. I bought some paints today and will try to begin painting again. Phil set up Van with a laptop so he is now able to communicate with the world and keep in touch with everyone. Van: vntbsl@earthlink.net, Bonnie: ybtart@earthlink.net or laurehome@earthlink.net. Phone #'s Bonnie" 407.739.8827 Van: 407.739.2082 Laure: 407.677.6576.
Our love to everyone!

BSL on CNN
Cindy wanted to relay the message that Christine Koch is doing a story on Bay St. Louis tonight on CNN and may be using some of Cindy?s photos taken while down there (Cindy is still there). The show is supposed to air tonight, if you want to see detailed coverage of our hometown and the devastation from Katrina.
Thanks,
~Matt Stieffel (Cindy?s brother)
Did anyone get to watch this? What did they show?

Medical and dental students,
My husband and I are 4th year students at UMC (me-medical, him-dental), and we are offering our guest bedroom/bathroom to any student that has family members or friends that need a place to stay. The bedroom is large with 2 large closets and its own bathroom and access to outside. We unfortunately can't accommodate any pets(no yard and a fussy Yorkshire terrier in the house), but the room can comfortably house 2 people and even a child on an air mattress if needed. The house is located off of Ridgewood (south of county line). PLEASE get in touch with us if you know of anyone in need of a place to stay other than a shelter or hotel. My cell phone number is 601-212-1137 and his is 601-594-8781.

Has anyone seen or heard from Bernie Wolfe? Last we heard was that he was staying in his house for the storm and we are concerned for he and his family. Please let us know.

email message from santa cruz below:
Santa Cruz- We are now in Destin and are planning to put the kids in school in Fairhope AL with the Haas family to be closer to home. If you have any contacts or know anyone who can find us a home there that would be great. We can either get a 4/5 Br house and have Woody and Grace live with us or we can do separate housing with 3BR for us and 2BR for them. Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Woody and Grace's beach house is gone. Our home is there had 5 feet of water so all our "things" are pretty much gone with the exception of what was up high. The house is one strong place...no structural damage.
Woody's story is something to hear. So here goes. He stayed in the house on the Beach. Around 9am he said as he stood in the back of the house near the kitchen he watch the wave crash though the front door and then collapse the front porch. Realizing that he needed to get out quickly, he went for the back door. When he exited, then entire house fell in. The steps had washed away so he "fell" into the water. His car was floating, house parts, etc and he was blocked for a while. His goal was getting to Randy's boat in the back yard...100 yards away. Somehow he managed to swim to the boat and somehome he managed to get inside of it.....we have a hard time getting into that boat on a sunny day with a ladder! Anyway, back to the story. His leg was bleeding profusely from cutting his achilles tendon, etc. that he really should not be alive. He took Randy's ropes in the boat and wrapped them around his leg to stop the bleeding. As you know our boat has no shelter but the console so he got behind that and basically held on.....for 4 hours....while everything in town flew past him. After the storm was over he checked on the Chamberlins and Rouches and then went to the beach, caught a ride to Dunbar Avenue, then he walked to our home off Sunset Drive on Dan Russell. He stayed in our muddy water logged home with our animals from Monday afternoon until Randy found him on Wed. Randy had essentially gone to our house to check on the animals as we just knew Woody was no longer with the living. Randy and Mike Haas walked in the house and Woody shouted "whose there"...he was afraid from the sound of it. You can just imagine what was going through both of their minds at this point. Woody had no information and had been alone 2 days little food or water and had no idea if we would or could come get him. My sweet neighbors, a chinese family who owns "Asian Gardens" brought him what they had and I think this saved his sanity and life. they also helped clean up his leg as best they could. So he came home with Randy and the rest is our new life..whatever that brings. My office/apt building on Dunbar Avenue (withstood Camille) Was fine on the top floor with a little damage. Randy will be locating his office there and staying there while rebuilding the bay. I've never been so happy that I decided to use that space as my office as it is about 2,200 square feet with 2 bathrooms and 2 kitchens. Thank God. I will work from there too with my staff when we get going and will commute from Fairhope...so again please let us know if any of you sailors have friends there that can call us about real estate. My number is 228-216-3757 and Randy's is 228-216-8337.
We are so thankful all of you are alive and I hope and pray you will all come back and help us build up our wonderful community. It will be better than ever before...that's my "new" project. Much love to you all...Charlotte and the rest of the Santa Cruz Family.

Chapoton's
I received this letter from Eileen and asked if I could post it here.
I know many of you have received info on us.....but just wanted to be sure we keep up with everyone!
Mike is working in Houston, bank sent him there on Monday of storm, I came to his sisters in Baton
Rouge, Missa came in Weds., John has stayed at OleMiss. We are all hanging in...future plans for
now are totally up in the air....looks like Mike will be getting a place in houston....we have no idea for
how long???
Pat ( Mikes' sister)and Jack have been so wonderful....they have an extra house we are staying in.
Our nephew's sister-in-law is staying in another. They are from Slidell. We have a big dog run for
the three dogs. They do come in at night....Missa is taking Baylor back to Auburn, Keelie will stay
here, and when I go, I'll take Scotty with me....It all seems so unreal so many people
displaced........everywhere we go we meet people that are refugees just like us.
Mike came in Friday night and Sat. am we went to BSL. We went with supplies of water food and gas,
and Oh yea...a PBS news crew.....look for us tonight on the Jim Leherer newshour....6pm central.
The devastation in BSL is really ... how do you describe it.....a war zone?...maybe worse ....All beach
houses in our nieghborhood are gone! Nothing standing even the Cowand plantation down the
street is gone....and gone for blocks back. When we drove around we kept saying oh look there is
where so and so's house was...oh no it was there....you really can not tell without a real close look.
We traveled to downtown which to those not from bay is at a 23 feet elevation. As we stood there
with the news crew we talked and they thought that where we stood was the end of town....they had
no idea that we where on the street corner and that the other side was also part of BSL. No street it is
all washed away....no signs of buildings that where on bay side.
We stood there at that time and realized that life as we knew and loved was gone....and that it would
not come back for a while. We talked with people we met and it does seem like everyone is talking
about rebuilding....yet knowing that it will not happen for a long time. Talked with the wife of local
surgeon ....not sure what he can do??? looking into going to Shreveport to practice till things are
different...kids have to go to school....and so many want it ti be in BSL but reality is that it could be
months, so they are talking about and registering kids for school in different cities across the south.
Everyone is scattered! It is so sad, and the sadness for us is much more than the loss of our house
and possesion.....it is the loss of a life that we loved. We love our neighbors, we love our town, we
love our community....and in reality know it will be a long time before we have it back.
We know that we are blessed to have our family, friends and that will never change.....and for that we
are most grateful. We are all doing well...amazing what you can do. we know what that what we
have is what matters the most...and that is our lives....each other...and friends and family like you.
Thanks for being there for us.....it means so much to know that we are loved! Eileen

Murphy's (Dootsie & Murph)
This is Wayne (in Galveston) posting on behalf of Murph and Dootsie. They are now residing in Natchez, MS with rental house and new phone no of 601-445-0275. Their house on Jourdan River (obviously) completely destroyed. We hear the shell is there and looters have already gotten valuables. We also been in contact with Nancy and Lucien Gex who are in Houston with daughter Laurie; they are doing ok.
Susan & Wayne Peterson
(This is Davis) My mom & Wayne do not have access to the internet right now so they told me that this site was set up & I thought I would give a quick update on them. Susan & Wayne came to Atlanta for the storm & are now in Jackson staying with some friends. Their home in the Pass is standing, but with much water damage - not much to salvage, which was expected. We are thankful they are okay. Kelly, Ken & their girls also came to Atlanta & they are still here but headed to Jackson today.
I have been away for what seems like forever, but it is so good to hear that everyone seems to have survived the storm.

Good to hear that everyone is safe and accounted for. Homes can be re-built, but you can't replace friends. We are up in Charleston SC at our family's summer home, will be living here for a while. I'll be getting a new cell up here soon, and when I do I will post the number. I hope to see everyone again soon, and look forward to building the Bay back better than before.

In West Mobile for now. We are going to set up camp at a condo in Fairhope, just at the top of the hill from the FYC ( that collapse too).
Depending on where I get a job (Houston, Chicago, Jacksonville, Charlseton, or Fairhope/Mobile), is where we will be for a year or two. We will return to the Bay and build it back.

Ok it is official. I got the call this morning. I will be working out of the Houston Arena for the next 6 months starting Sept 12th. I bet my new office has some great views. Shell has had significant damage to all their platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and so it is our job to get them back on line and pumping gas. Very rarely do you get to see your every day job actually making a difference! I will be staying with my aunt and uncle in west houston. As I don't want to overburden them with having an extra body in the house, I will eventually be looking for a new apartment. If anyone knows of anything or some one looking for a roommate, please let me know.Hope y'all are having a good day.~Kiki

FEMA and the government/military have arrived. We do not need any more personal donations of food and water. Government troops from almost every military organization have been deployed and their support is finally taking over. Tanks, helicopters.you name it and they are there helping. We are very pleased with the help with the help that has arrived. The government officials and agencies, as well as the victims in Bay St. Louis, are well aware of the help and support that has come from the Houston contingent!
We are especially happy with the support from all of you - the supplies, the volunteers and the long hours of coordinating and loading up supplies to fill in the gaps where the government agencies fell short. Basically, our efforts saved lives, provided food, medicine and clothing in a time when there was virtually nothing provided by our government. Thanks so much to all of you for the help!
We are going to set up a fund to address specific needs for the Bay St. Louis victims. If you want to make a financial donation, please contact the Cady residence to find out how you can help. We should be back in Houston sometime on Labor Day and we will set up this fund in the following day or two. For now, make checks payable to Larry or Cady and we will handle accordingly.
We will send more communications as soon as more information is available.
Again, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Jeff Reisch and family stayed with us during the storm. They returned the morning after the storm and we have not heard from them since. There is a rumor that Bishop was injured???
Has anyone heard from anyone at Pass?
Bishop - is there anyway for us to get supplies to you? If so, call either me or Chris and let us know - 251-490-6864 (Vivian) or 251-510-3729 (Chris). Also, we do have room at the house for people, boats (if there are any) and animals. You can email me at vgaudet@asdd.com.

How to use this site: Since we don't know when Bishop's site will be up, I (Jen Chamberlain) figured I could start this so everyone from the club can post where they are and their email addresses. Here is how you post.
1. Go to www.blogspot.com
2. username: BWYC and password: member
3. Click on bwyc
4. Click on "create post"
5. Type in whatever you want.
6. To post pictures, click on the little picture box next to the ABC check mark on your tools and then you can add a photo from your computer.
7. You can also link to albums, you just have to use a generic username and password.
8. Feel free to leave comments on other people's posts.
Walter and Malin. Walter and Malin decided to weather the storm at the Rausch's with Walter Raush and Gilly. They got water in the house on second street up to their knees until water started to recede. We went and picked up the Chamberlain's yesterday to bring them to Jackson. They will be going back and forth between Jackson and Bay Saint Louis. Walter's email is waltcham@aol.com
Gilly. Gilly is safe too. He took a log every hour of the water, wind, etc. during the hurricane, even while he was standing on a countertop when the water was coming in. He is staying with Bishop at Stennis Airfield to man the relief camp set forth by the "Houston Heroes!" Not sure what his plan is yet. Gilly won't have email for a little while until he gets to Jackson or somewhere with power and internet service.
Kippy and me. We are in Jackson. Our neighbor, who is the nicest person alive, has a gigantic house she is letting the Chamberlain's stay in for free. She has room for two more people. Our email is jchamberlain@som.umsmed.edu.

Spots open at Marist Academy in Atlanta
This is from Kippy's cousin in Atlanta. Let us know if this can help any of you out.
Jen - Not sure if there is anyone that this might be of help to but I thought I send it along - This is from my High School in Atlanta and they are offering to bring in students from other Catholic Schools in the area affected. Perhaps there are folks you may come across who will be with family in the Atlanta area over the future and could take advantage of this.
I'm happy to contact them if you find anyone interested.
Dear Marist Alumni, As the first response to needs arising out of the tragedy in the Gulf Coast states, Marist will be making available seats to students coming from Catholic schools in the affected areas. We have determined we can accommodate up to 10 additional students in each grade. We will offer these students space among us at no cost through the 2005-06 school year; those who desire may make contributions to the school. To arrange for enrollment, parents or a local family member should call Father Scully, Director of Admissions at Marist at 770.936.2227 or e-mail him at scullyp@marist.com.
We are advising that students in grades 7 and 8, unless they have siblings for the other grades, would be better placed in area Catholic and private schools that have openings in those grades; we are particularly tight in those grades. We will, though, make every attempt to keep children from a family together, including incorporating a sibling who may not be coming from Catholic school or taking in 7th and 8th graders if they have older siblings enrolling.
I am sure that we are all struggling to comprehend the degree of disruption and devastation Katrina has caused. One constant for families is education, and those who have so far approached us are interested in having their children enrolled in Marist because it is similar to schools that their children were already attending. Our faculty and staff have said, in effect, "Let us open our doors, and we will manage." I am grateful that we can operate out of a Marist spirit of sharing and service.
If you are interested in helping hurricane victims through donations, you may want to help defray the cost of books and uniforms for students coming into Marist (check payable to Marist School), or you may want to aid the wider population that has been affected by adding your check to Catholic Charities USA to our student and staff collection before September 12. Thanks for assistance in all forms to the many who are suffering the effects of the hurricane.

Email sent out from Kay & Rebekah Kennedy
This was emailed out on Friday, Sept.2nd. There have been a couple of updates since then, but this is very very helpful. Thank you Kay and Rebekah!
Jen
Hi all.
This is Kay Kennedy Regimbal and Rebekah Kennedy. This is Basil's address and he has asked that we try to stay in touch with as many as possible right now. If any of you receive this, please let us know that you are OK and where you are.
Kennedy - Basil and Weezie are headed to Perdido Key/Orange Beach for a couple of days. Rebekah is with me in Oxford, MS and we have enrolled her in school at Oxford High where they have welcomed her with open arms! Marty and I feel very fortunate to be able to spend this time with her... Our Uncle Rip and Cousin Tare (Basil's brother and his son) have really been heroes through this whole storm! They have a trucking company that they pulled in and currently have a convoy of semi trucks with medical supplies & equipment, food & water headed to Hancock County and cleared by MEMA and FEMA for delivery. Those coming with the trucks are volunteer firefighters, nurses, doctors, and EMT's from the Anderson, SC area (where they live) - and more are flying in with more prescription drugs,> IV's & equipment for Hancock Medical Center - they have had the head of MEMA and the lieutenant governor working to get them there.
Penrose family - Caroline Madden Colquett has been absolutely incredible in seeing that the right people were contacted and all of Rip and Tare's efforts could be accommodated. Nanette Stroh and Norvin Penrose are now with Caroline, Jason & Family in Greenwood, MS. The rest of the family is doing great.
Stieffel's - all are OK - We believe that almost everyone, if not all, from the Coast have now made it to Larry & Cindy Cady's home in Texas. Cindy and Larry also went above and beyond to see that those who were ready to leave could leave, and those that wanted to stay had all things they needed. They are really incredible people and have really shown the true spirit of our community!
Breath - Chuck and Ellen Breath are headed back to Destin, FL where Missy, Vince, Corbin & Addie are. Chuck, Katie and Charlie are in Memphis with Ellen's sister's family.
The Murphys - Dootsie and Murph are in Natchez with Dootsie's family.
The Chamberlains - last we knew, Walter, Malin & Gilly are well - staying at Mr. Rausch's home on Second Street - Kippy and Jen had just moved to Jackson and we are hoping that they are all there now - if anyone has heard from them, please let us know.
Mr. Rausch's home became the home base for our crew in Bay St. Louis - he has now left with family - but he and his home proved to be a real life saver for all who stayed.
Judy Reeves is with Mary Ladner in Bay St Louis - they are doing well according to Weezie as of today. At the time, I do not think they were ready to leave.
The Eagans are spread out - Marc, Gail & family in Destin; Ricky, Cathy & Family in Montgomery; Peggy, Polly & Family in Greenwood - trying to get to Polly's home in Bush - which should be accomplished in the next few days. (Marcus and Roseanne are in Newport, RI)
McDonald/Uram/Kane - Iva May and Nancy are in Charleston. Robert, Ellen, Regan & Sanders are in Baton Rouge. Jana is in Vicksburg. Mark & Kim are OK - but we think are still in Bay St. Louis.
Mestayer - Marilyn is in Jackson with her mother. Richard was still in Bay St. Louis with Ed Weidlich - but we think Will went back yesterday to pick him up. Dick & Paula are in Milton, FL.
Benvenuttis - we believe all are OK and in Florida - but we are not sure.
Haddens are in Destin.
Santa Cruz - we know that they are fine - but are not sure where they are.
Trapani - we also know that they are OK - but are not sure where they are.
Chapoton's - we have not hear from them - please let us know from them.
Taylors - we believe all to be well - but are not sure where they are. (Sarah & Zak are in Baton Rouge)
Gene & Kathleen Jenkins are great - house is still there - very little water and damage - they are allive and well!
Whitfields are alive and well - not sure where they are.
Chapmans - all are now in Mobile - all alive and well.
Kinney's (Pass Christian) are all alive and well - in Florida with family & Basil and Weezie Kuhners (Pass Christian) are all alive and well and were back on Menge as of yesterday - but we think they are leaving
John McKellar (Pass Christian) is alive and well - in McComb with family
Jacobi - Amy, Kevin & their families are all in Jackson, MS
Carters - Annette, the kids and her family are in Oxford. Mark is in Jackson working - all are alive and well!
Simpsons (Pass Christian) - Bobby, Lisa & Family are in Annapolis, MD - the kids have been enrolled in school - but all are alive and well.
Peneguy's - we know Oliver is great - house on Menge fared rather well - but do not know where everyone is.
Merrigans - have not heard from them - please give update (Staying in Ridgeland, Jackson)
Martinez - Basil saw Henry & Patrick in Bay - not sure where everyone is headed.
Crane's - Jimmy and family are alive and well with family (and some Eagans) in Montgomery
We know this doesn't even scratch the surface - but these are the only people we have had contact with - or have heard of others having contact with. We would like to keep a regular update going in the hopes that as the days go by, more and more will be added to the contact list. If anyone has any more updates - on those listed and on ANYONE else, please respond to all and add names as necessary so we can all keep in touch.
We are continuing to pray for everyone and for the recovery and future of our great cities. We know that the next days, months and years will be trying - but also find great strength knowing that all will return better than ever with a sense of community like no other. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Kay & Rebekah
