April Manager's Moments
MANAGER’S MOMENTS

As I write this article, it is a week or so prior to our Opening Regatta and Review of the Fleet. I sincerely hope that we have good weather and a good turn out to what is being called the “formal” opening of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. Crews are busy cleaning and raking the old club grounds. We are getting ready to install gravel walkways and preparing to sow grass seeds, and the installer is putting up the fence around the pool.
Plans are still being formulated but we are planning on having sailing camp this summer. Cindy Stieffel Cady has volunteered to coordinate and oversee the program, and will be here as soon as school is out for the summer. Tentative plans are to have three sessions starting on Tuesday, May 30th, following basically the same format as in the past. Look for information with details elsewhere in the Jib Sheet
Membership response has been very positive for this year, what with so many of our members affected by the hurricane. Out of approximately 462 members, we have only had seventeen resignations, plus ten members have changed their status to non-resident. As of Friday, March 17th, seventy-two percent of members had paid their dues or been set up on the installment plan to pay. We do have a number of members that have not sent us a change of address and are having their mail returned with no forwarding address. Only time will tell if these folks will advise us so we can get their invoices to them, or if they will fall by the membership wayside. It’s tough to contact them – if they’re not getting their invoice, they’re not getting the Jib Sheet either.
Make plans to attend the Review of the Fleet. All the boat owners (who still have boats!) are going to try to make a good showing and put boats in the water for the review. Come cheer them on and enjoy grillards and grits with us! Ya’ll come!
