Randy wins GYA Flying Scot Champs

Pensacola Yacht Club
Eight boats registered for the 2005 Jubilee Regatta which doubled as the GYA Individual Flying Scot Championship. The Scots sailed out in 18 to 22 knots and BWYC's two reps (Randy with Katherine and Mia & Bish with Cindy and Tirza) were the last two to drop thier boats. Randy headed out on the jib, raising the main on the way, but it got jammed up top. Bishop stopped to help and they had it fixed in just a few minutes and as they made thier way out to the course, the race started. Nine minutes later, Bish and Randy got through the line. PYC's Neil McMillan was leading the race at the first leeward, but flipped and sank. Another boat could not finish the race. Only five boats started on time, and there were now only three left. Just short of the second weather mark, Bish caught one of them finishing third two minutes behind the leader, but Randy just missed him and finished fifth. The RC decided to send us in after that one.
As it turns out, both Bay boats started too late and were scored DNS (9 points). bummer.
Sunday, four races were sailed in 3 - 8 knots and Randy made it clear immediately that he still wanted to win the regatta, winning the first three races! Bishop could only manage 3, 3, 2, 1 on Sunday, finishing 4th while Randy's second in the last race was good enough to win the event.

Way to go, guys and gals! When I called Flaying Scot Association to get our hull numbers registered, I told Courtney that we may have lost our clubhouse, but we hadn't lost our sailing spirit! This just goes to show! Brenda
the real reason that randy won was because he had the two best crew members ever! Mia el-hamaki, and of course katherine santa cruz
