AUGUST "MANAGER'S MOMENTS"
MANAGER’S MOMENTS
By Brenda Graybeal
Deacon John turned out to be a swinging event, even outdoors under a tent (in fact, many people said they enjoyed it more, because it was relatively cooler than the club used to be). I guess that’s true; we even had a little breeze part of the night. We had over 350 tickets sold, and I think everyone had a great time. I’m glad Deacon and his band were able to play this year. Deacon had minimal damage to his home in New Orleans, but many of his band members were hit hard in Katrina. But as he told me, traditions must go on, and playing at Bay-Waveland Yacht Club has been a standing tradition for many years (he enjoys playing here as much as our people enjoy having him here).
We’re just one month (give or take a few days) from the traditional Labor Day event, the Lipton Regatta. We’re going to be operating out of our trailers, plus we’ll have tents for various functions. We have a number of volunteers who have stepped up but we need many more to pull this off successfully. If you can work a shift or more, please give Judy Reeves, our Lipton coordinator, a call. It should be a fun time, with meals and entertainment Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We have had over 85% of our members who have rejoined, plus we are getting several new applications every month. The swimming pool has been a great asset and has been full every day we’re open. We have had a number of private functions (a shower, a birthday party, a 50th wedding anniversary and a wedding reception). We have several other functions scheduled between now and the Lipton’s, so it’s been a busy summer for us.
Wednesday Night Races with a meal have been very popular, with an average of
fifty meals served, and a couple of over seventy. Our thanks to the members who have stepped up and provided the meals. They have all been very good. The “Grill Your Own” on Saturdays draws a good crowd. If you haven’t joined up, come on down. We provide the salad and backed potato bar (bakers and sweet potatoes) for $6.00 and you provide your choice of meat for your meal. We have purchased a new, stainless steel gas grill, so we can have lots of people cooking.
I look forward to seeing you, so come join us.

Boh Series
To make life easier for all....
If you want to be eligible as a skipper in the Boh Series, you need to participate in the Summer Series either by racing in a club race or a designated Capdevielle event.
There are no more Capdevielle events and this weekend is the last weekend of club racing.
Boh Series...
I have conversed with participates and received input from other sailors about the Boh Series.
I will release the rules for the Boh Series by Wednesday of this week.
The Boh Series will remain as scheduled, August 5-6.
HINT::::We have five club Scots. We need three more boats to make an eight (8) boat rotation. The Capdevielle boat (red) can not be used in the Boh Series. If we don't get enough boats, the Boh Series has a possibility of being limited to six skippers. The first four skippers will be last year's top four. The next 2 to 4 skippers will be at large bids taken from the Summer Series. I am trying to avoid having too many skippers for too few boats.

Junior Lipton Team
All,
The 2006 BWYC Junior Lipton Team has been set as of this evening. After a full round robin of 7 races, the skippers are: Nick Doty, Alex Boudreaux, and Fred Eagan. Congrats to them, and thanks to all of the crew for participating. The other skippers were William Hadden, John Hadden, Mac Cady, and Stuart Conrad. Crews were: Riley and Brieu Bourgeois, Micah Elkins, Katherine Santa Cruz, Gabby, Brian Carson, Kristina Sebastian, John Netterville...if I have forgotten someone I am sorry, it's late.
I'd like to give a special thanks to Judy Reeves and Cathy Eagan for helping me on the R/C boat (which the Eagans provided), and Corky and Molly Hadden for doing markset on their boat.
The regatta is next weekend at Southern, and Ricky is bringing the 40 footer to New Orleans as the BWYC spectator boat, so come support your team and your Club. Hope to see you at the regatta!
Cheers,
Riess

Okay sailors...On Saturday, no one showed up again. Three races plus the Capdevielle is all that has been completed.
What do you want to do to determine a Lipton Team? Time is running out.

Summer Series PRO
I need to know if anyone is going to sail the Summer Series. If I'm not needed, I need to know so that I can go to Houston, instead of sitting around the club.
Thanks
