From Penny & Mugsy Cole....

To all my friends and club members...

Me and Mugsy are with the Club - all the way. We hate the distance not to be able to help more. We have been down twice since Katrina - had 17 family members with us for one month and 6 until November. It is such sadness. I was the second Junior Commodore and my young life was ALL sailing and the Yacht Club. Now the love for you all is as much as ever. We hope to help more. Merry Christmas and truly Happy New Year.

Strong Backs Needed

The club whaler is sitting on the ground behind Trap's house. We need eight to ten strong backs to lift the hull and set it back on the trailer. The boat/motor weights about 700 lbs so it should be easy work for a group. Lifting this way will be less stressful on the hull and will result in no damage to the boat. It appears that the boat just floated off the trailer and suffered minor damage. Call Larry Keith @ 228-493-2347 lets shoot for sometime next week.

A step closer to having a club ....

We now have two trailers on-site for our temporary club facility. One trailer will have an office/storeroom, two rest rooms and a lounge area. The other trailer is one long space that can be used for larger gatherings. The power company is working on getting power completed this week, the phone company says service is there (we just have to get jacks installed in the trailers), and people are working on the sewer situation (apparently the pumps in the list station were destroyed and have to be replaced). Not sure what the time line is on that. But it is a sign of progress.
Hopefully, it won't bee too longer before we can open the doors and have everyone in for a visit and a drink.

Address Changes

Please send any address, phone number or email changes to: BWYC, P. O. Box 3715, Bay St. Louis, MS 39521...or email to bwyc@bwyc.org. Thanks, Brenda

Manager's Moments

We have been mailing out a one-page "Jib Sheet" to try to keep members up-to-date on what's happening with the Yacht Club, and to keep in touch with our members. With so many people scattered all over the country, it is critical that we keep an active mailing list so you can receive your Jib Sheet, dues and other club charge invoices. I check the club email site daily, so please email any changes to bwyc@bwyc.org, or mail to P. O. Box 3715, Bay St. Louis, MS 39521. Thanks to everyone that has already made their changes. Also, don't forget - when you get back to a more permanant location, let us know of this change.

We are looking forward to having a temporary trailer) facility set up on the club site in the very near future, hopefully sometime before the new year. We will have two trailers brought in and set up near the guest dock area (on the paved area by the harbor). One trailer will be used as a lounge, where members will be able to gather and have a drink and swap tales of the hurricane or sailing events, plus an office/storeroom set up. The two trailers will be separated by a deck area (partially covered). The deck area will be used as a place to have "grill your owns" and to view the bay and racing activities. The site where the clubhouse stood will be grassed or sodded and will make a nice area adjacent to the pool. The pool suffered very little damage and once power is restored to the area, it will be repaired, cleaned and fenced in (for security and insurance purposes). When warm weather comes around, the pool will be one of the benefits still available for member's use.

A large number of members have brought their boats back to the harbor. Dues invoices for harbor dues will go out in the very near future. It is very difficult for us to keep track of who is in the harbor and who isn't. I would like to ask that anyone who has a boat in the harbor, to let me know. Mail me or email me. Otherwise, if you had a boat there last year, you will be getting an invoice. If you do get an invoice and don't have a boat there, let me know and I'll take care of it. Please try to let me know promptly - sometimes in the past I have sent bills out for months, then someone will say" "Why, I haven't had a boat there since .....!"

I'm sure once we get on site, things will be esier and we can keep track of things better. We're looking forward to it and being able to have a place for everyone to gather will be a positive step forward and a sign things are getting a little better every day.

The next Bail the Bilge is Sunday, December 11th at the Funky Rose on Main Street in Bay St. Louis from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. See you there. Brenda Graybeal, Club Manager.
